Here in Wisconsin the weather has been cold. Overall, we have had a mild winter but none the less it still feels like winter but that hasn’t stopped us from thinking about the upcoming spring & summer season.
This past year I traveled to Round Top, Texas for their annual antique fair. I’m a huge Fixer Upper fan so if Joanna Gaines finds ideas and inspiration during Round Top I figured it was worth checking out. Round Top consists of multiple pastoral towns that stretch over hundreds of acres making up the longest and largest yard sale in the country. Don’t be fooled by the words “yard sale”. This gem of an event was filled with everything new and old. My creative juices were flowing. How could Patio Pleasures do more, offer more and inspire more with what I was seeing?

I then traveled to Atlanta to visit the America Mart for their gift, garden and outdoor show. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I had two days to walk three buildings consisting of 18 floors each covering over 1 million square feet.
My eyes were set on finding unique items that could complement our showrooms and allow us to go further with casual living accessories. I came across everyday items that one would potentially find in their local big box store… not what I was after. Well it didn’t take long for me to discover what I was looking for. All of a sudden I felt as if I was back in Round Top.
Galvanized washtubs of all different sizes and designs & reclaimed wood being transformed into planters and beverage coolers. Yes, please!
My journey continued scouring three buildings for additional casual living accessories and items that complimented Patio Pleasures Pools & Spas. During this time, I was told about a word trending with in the casual living industry, Hygge. Hygge (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah) is a Danish word used when acknowledging a special feeling or moment. It can be alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary but is always cozy, charming or special. A feeling of joy or cozy contentment. I loved this! Patio Pleasures is all about cozy contentment and creating experiences of joy. I took this as a sign that I was in the right place – on the right journey.
My market adventure in Atlanta left me with even more inspiration and a huge vision of all the unique items we could offer in our Madison, WI and Sun Prairie, WI showrooms. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have in store for you this spring.
